Detroit's lineup is banged up at the middle infield with Gleyber Torres still on the shelf, but Riley Greene and company have carried the offense through a stretch that included a statement sweep of the Yankees in New York. The Tigers have scored in bunches lately, which matters against a Perkins outing that's been prone to blowing up.

Oakland's issues go deeper than one bad week. Brent Rooker is done for the season after a cartilage tear in his knee required surgery, gutting a lineup that was already without Tyler Soderstrom and Jacob Wilson. Colby Thomas has picked up outfield reps in the shuffle, but this is a roster running thin on healthy bats, and it shows in a stretch where they've dropped 4 of 5 to the Dodgers and Marlins.

Detroit isn't without its own questions — the Tigers were pegged as postseason locks in the spring and instead sit under .500, with the rotation depth behind Tarik Skubal looking shaky most nights. But right now, momentum is squarely on their side, and A.J. Hinch just picked up his 1,000th career win during this very hot streak. The A's need to find something fast to avoid getting run out of Comerica Park.
