San Francisco at 19-27 vs. an Athletics club sitting at 23-22 is the kind of standings snapshot nobody had on their bingo card. Sacramento has been a real home park for the A's, and they roll out Jeffrey Springs on Sunday afternoon trying to lock down another series win against their old Bay rival.

Adrian Houser is the story for the Giants. The 5.79 ERA is ugly, but the last two times out he's been a different guy — six-plus innings of one-run ball in the loss to San Diego, then helping push past the Dodgers on May 13. If that version of Houser shows up again, the Giants have a chance even without their ace.

Springs has quietly been the A's most consistent arm. He did get pulled early against the Royals with right hip soreness, but Mark Kotsay called it precautionary and he was cleared to make his next turn without missing one. The 4.22 ERA flatters him a touch — his peripherals are sharper than the line score suggests.

The injury column is doing a lot of heavy lifting in this game's context. The Giants are without Logan Webb (knee), Heliot Ramos just hit the 10-day with a quad strain, and the bullpen is basically a triage unit — Birdsong had UCL surgery, Rodriguez, Wick, Butto and Foley all on the 60-day. The A's are also missing real pieces in Jacob Wilson, Max Muncy and Denzel Clarke.

The market has the A's at -136 at DraftKings against a Pinnacle fair price closer to -144, which is why the EV signal on the Giants moneyline is the one screaming the loudest on the card. Public money is heavy on the home side as you'd expect, but the under is where the bettors are stacked even as the handle leans over. Pick your poison on a 9.5 in Sacramento.
