The Bush Survive A Reverse Sweep Scare To Reach The Bracket Stage

Down and nearly out twice in one night, Telluride Bush Gaming got reverse swept by Team WaR then bounced right back to sweep OMNiA Invicta and punch a ticket to…

Barstool Sports' Call of Duty Challengers team didn't just survive Group A elimination day, they went through hell to do it. The Bush needed a Map 5 just to find out who they'd even be playing next, watched OMNiA Invicta smoke Team WaR in a Map 4 blowout to force that decider, and then had to wait around until 2:30pm PST to find out their own path forward.

Once the smoke cleared, the matchup was set: Bush vs. Team WaR in a Qualification Match, with the loser dropping into an elimination game against OMNiA Invicta. That's the format at these Challengers events, brutal and unforgiving, and the Bush came out firing. A 70-plus point deficit turned into a 250-213 win on Colossus HP behind Traaixx's 43-piece takeover, and then Gridlock SnD went the same way to put the Bush up 2-0 in the series.

That's when it fell apart. Team WaR clawed back a Scar Overload win to make it 2-1, then blitzed Scar HP 250-112 to even the series at 2-2 and force a Map 5. On Raid SnD, WaR held on through Round 11 to complete the reverse sweep, sending the Bush to a 2-3 series loss and, with it, straight into the elimination match against OMNiA Invicta with their season on the line.

Reverse sweeps are the kind of collapse that ends seasons, and for a few minutes it looked like it might end this one too. Instead, the Bush turned right around and delivered the cleanest response possible. Down 60-plus early on Hacienda HP, they stormed back for a 250-164 win behind Prolute and Capsidal, then ran a quick 6-0 on Den SnD to go up 2-0. Map 3 was the exclamation point: a 3-0 sweep of OMNiA Invicta that ended the Bush's night with a trip out of Group A instead of a trip home.

The Bush's 6-0 Den SnD win pushed the elimination match to 2-0 before they finished the sweep.

This is the same Telluride Bush Gaming squad Barstool Sports built out for the Black Ops 7 Challengers season, bringing together former Call of Duty League talent under the Bush banner to compete at the Tier 2 level. Surviving a reverse sweep and then immediately sweeping the team that would've eliminated them is about as good a stress test as a young roster can get. Now the reward is a date with OMiTGG, the defending champs, in the bracket stage. No time to breathe, just another must-win.
