He was arrested when he showed up to the meeting spot with the phone he used to set it up.

York didn't fight it. He pleaded no contest Monday to a pair of amended misdemeanor charges — the original engaging-in-prostitution count got knocked down to disorderly conduct, and he also copped to possessing criminal tools. A judge handed him 1 day in jail on each charge, run concurrently with credit for time served, plus $1,150 in fines. Quick and quiet, at least on the legal side.
The 49ers' official response was about as bare-bones as it gets: "As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time." The league wasn't ready to let it go that easily — the NFL confirmed it's aware of the situation and will review it under the personal conduct policy, which explicitly applies to owners and not just players. That policy also notes ownership has traditionally been held to a higher standard when violations happen.
That's a real wrinkle here. York isn't just some minority stakeholder — he's the principal owner, a title he only picked up in March 2024 after buying out additional equity from his mother, Denise DeBartolo York. He's been running the football side since 2008 when he took over as CEO while his parents shifted into co-chairman roles. This is the guy steering the franchise, not a background name on a cap table.
There's also a family echo nobody's thrilled to point out. York's uncle, Eddie DeBartolo Jr., ran the 49ers for 23 years and delivered 5 Super Bowls before a corruption scandal forced him to hand full control over to York's mother. It's a very different kind of scandal, but it's another instance of 49ers ownership ending up in headlines for the wrong reasons.
For now the legal matter is closed, cheap fines and time served in the books. What isn't closed is whatever the NFL decides to do with its personal conduct review, and whether York's peers among ownership treat this as a private embarrassment or something that actually costs him standing in the league.
