It's not hard to see why Houston keeps dialing Miami. Stowers made the All-Star team in 2025 after smashing 25 home runs, and he's still just 28. He's also under team control all the way through 2029, per reporting, which turns this from a rental scramble into a legitimate multi-year swing for a franchise cornerstone piece. That kind of control is exactly why the Marlins aren't just giving him away.
Miami has apparently made that price point clear. Reports out of the talks describe the Marlins as "not especially motivated to move" Stowers, and the asking price has been steep enough to give Houston pause. Add in the fact that Miami's been playing well, and the Marlins front office is left with a real question: do you cash in a controllable All-Star bat while you're surging, or do you hold and build around him?

And Houston isn't the only team working the phones. Per another MLBTR update, the Rays and Rangers have both shown interest in Marlins hitters too, which only strengthens Miami's hand and complicates things for an Astros front office that doesn't want to get outbid.
