Barstool Trent's George Bush Presidents Cup Clip Turns 4

Some anniversaries you mark with a cake. Fore Play marks theirs by bringing back the day a former President of the United States cooked one of their own on camera. The date is right. Bush and Bill Clinton were both at Quail Hollow in Charlotte on Friday, September 23, 2022, working the crowd around the first tee during the 14th Presidents Cup. Somewhere in that crowd, Trent walked up to the 43rd president with his PGA Tour credential around his neck, and golf internet has not let him forget it since.

That's the whole bit. It's a phone video of Trent walking up to Bush next to a packed grandstand, with a photographer snapping away a few feet off. Whatever got said in that exchange, the pod's verdict 4 years later hasn't changed: Trent got put in a blender. The clip blew up back then, and Fore Play devoted a whole episode to it. Episode 499 went out under the title "Hilarious Interaction with George W. Bush," bundled with their recap of a week the Americans closed out 17.5 to 12.5.

Presidents come up a lot on this show, apparently. Earlier this month, previewing the Solheim Cup, one of the hosts brought up the 2024 edition in Virginia, where they stood behind Nelly Korda as the U.S. won. That same trip, according to the show, came with an Obama sighting that Frankie still regrets missing.

So yes, the Fore Play guys are officially collecting presidents. The Bush meeting is still the one people rewatch, though. The Obama story is a nice brag. The Bush clip is the one where the president wins.

The timing works because the Presidents Cup is back this week. The 16th edition is at Medinah Country Club outside Chicago, with practice days September 22-23 and competition September 24-27. Brandt Snedeker captains the U.S. and Geoff Ogilvy captains the Internationals. Fore Play has spent the whole build-up on it. Episode 897 went out under the headline that U.S. team golf is in crisis, and last week's show had Nico Echavarria on before his first Presidents Cup appearance for the International team.

Something to watch for at Medinah: former presidents have a habit of turning up at this event, and the Barstool golf desk has a habit of turning up wherever the cameras are. Four years on, Trent is still the guy who walked up to George W. Bush and came out of it as a meme. If there's a sequel this week, somebody will be filming it.
