Dave Portnoy Won't Pay, Nicky Smokes Pitches Shore House

The Prez called into Out & About from home, and before the episode got to the part everyone is talking about, it was trash talk from the jump.

So that's the mood. Dave is sick, according to the tweet running a 5K through pneumonia, and still happy to go back and forth with Pat and Keegs over a secondhand insult. Then the conversation moved to the thing the younger Barstool crowd actually cares about: whether the company will put a group of them in a house and let them make content. Dave's answer was simple. It's a no, and he doesn't think it has to be his call anyway.

"Daddy funding a free vacation" is peak Portnoy. It isn't a ban. It's a dare. His whole argument is that nobody needs his permission or his credit card to make a show. If the idea is good, go make it. Anyone who has watched Barstool for more than a week knows that's how half the company's best content got made: somebody did it cheap, it worked, and then the money showed up.

It didn't take long for somebody to take the dare. A couple of hours after the episode dropped, Nicky Smokes was already working out the details in public: a crew that doesn't sleep, a backpack for a live stream, and the cast paying for the house themselves.

Honestly, "it would probably be a disaster but that could add charm to the show" is the best pitch anybody at Barstool has made this year. A chaotic house at the shore, a volunteer camera crew of 6-8 people and a live stream that could go sideways at any second? That's more Barstool than anything a production budget would buy. The fact that people are already DMing to offer to film tells you there's an audience for it before a single lease is signed.

For now it's just a group chat idea said out loud, and Dave isn't paying for any of it. But he basically told them the door is open as long as they pay their own way. If Nicky Smokes actually rents the house, the smart money says Dave shows up on day 1 to tell them how badly they're doing it. Then he'll probably take credit when it works.
