The Missouri and Penn State transfer is torching NC State in his first start for Virginia, running and throwing all over the Wolfpack defense.

Beau Pribula has been to two Power 4 programs and started exactly one game for either of them before Saturday. Now he's making his first snap as Virginia's starter look like the easiest thing in the world, and NC State has no answer.

It's 10-0 Virginia on NC State on the 1Q after the Hoos turn an INT into points. Virginia has thrown the ball one time across three drives. QB Beau Pribula has 56 rushing yards on 5 carries.

That was just the opening act. Virginia leaned almost entirely on the ground game early, and it worked so well the Cavaliers barely bothered throwing at all.

Then Pribula started airing it out too, and the results got even uglier for the Wolfpack. A 45-yard touchdown strike pushed the lead to 17-0 before halftime, the kind of strike that makes a quarterback change look like a slam dunk in real time.

Beau Pribula is tearing up this NC State defense. A 45-yard TD pass and it's 17-0 Virginia

The path here wasn't a straight line. Pribula spent two years stuck behind Drew Allar at Penn State before transferring to Missouri, where he threw for 1,941 yards with 11 touchdowns against 9 interceptions and added 297 rushing yards and 6 scores on the ground last season. Tony Elliott brought him to Charlottesville this offseason to replace Chandler Morris, who was denied a seventh year of eligibility by the NCAA — and through a half and change, that swap is paying off in a hurry.

By the third quarter, the box score had gone from promising to absurd: 5-of-6 passing for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns, plus 80 rushing yards, with Virginia up 24-0 on NC State. Beat writers who cover this stuff for a living weren't being shy about what they were watching.

UVA’s Beau Pribula looking really sharp today, shredding NC State with his legs—and his arm. The former Penn State QB, No. 91 on the Freaks List, is 5-6 for 127 yards & 2 TDs and run for 80 yards in a little over a half. UVA up 24-0. t.co/XDLcGIJVM5

Pete Nakos framed it the same way — a former backup finally getting the keys to his own offense and immediately looking like the best player on the field. Whether it's a real signal for Virginia's season or one dominant half against an overmatched NC State defense is the obvious follow-up question, but debuts like this one are exactly why programs gamble on the transfer portal in the first place.
