Ben Simmons draws training camp offer from Western Conference team

Ben Simmons wants back in the league, and it looks like at least one front office is willing to take the swing. Marc Spears reported that Simmons is drawing interest from multiple teams around the NBA, with at least one Western Conference club going as far as offering him a training camp invite.

That's a real step for a guy who spent all of last season on the sideline. Simmons sat out the entire 2025-26 campaign to fully rehab his body, and by all accounts it worked. According to reporting tied to Spears, a coach who recently worked with Simmons said he's regained his athleticism, and the former No. 1 pick himself has said this is the best he's felt in years.

Worth remembering: this isn't Simmons chasing a max deal. Reports indicate he's open to signing for the veteran minimum just to get his foot back in a door that's mostly stayed shut since his last stint with the Nets and Clippers in 2024-25. A training camp invite doesn't guarantee a roster spot, but it does guarantee reps in front of decision-makers, which is more than Simmons has had in over a year.

It's a two-birds situation: staying sharp for an NBA opportunity while also building toward representing Australia at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Simmons has been a lightning rod for jokes for years now, fair or not, but health has genuinely been the obstacle more than talent.
