Big Cat Is Buying Stadiums Now, One Yard Line At A Time

Big Cat just bought a piece of the most famous non-green field in college football. The Boise State blue turf is officially getting chopped up and shipped to Chicago.

Boise State's blue turf has been the weirdest, most recognizable surface in college football since 1986. You see one frame of a game on The Smurf Turf and you know exactly where you are. Apparently you can also just buy chunks of it now, because Big Cat announced he's the proud new owner of the 10-yard line, with an install date set for the Chicago office in July.

The announcement, complete with a photo of the goods.

This is the kind of purchase that lives in a very specific lane: too dumb to be a real business expense, too cool to pass up. A 10-yard strip of blue turf does not serve a function. It is not a rug. It is not a putting green. It is a conversation piece for a podcast office, and that's exactly the point. The ROI here is measured entirely in how many guests walk in, see blue turf, and immediately ask what the hell is going on.

A follow-up from Big Cat as the deal got finalized in person.

The reaction online was about what you'd expect — half the replies assumed it had to be a parody account before clocking that no, this is actually happening. Clem floated the idea that this might just be the start of a much bigger collecting habit, which honestly tracks. Once you've bought a yard line, where exactly do you stop? Lambeau's frozen tundra? A urinal trough from the old Yankee Stadium? The slope is steep and slippery.

Clem reacting to the announcement and bracing for whatever comes next.

@BarstoolBigCat Thought this was Centel. I am now fully prepared for you to buy awesome parts of every stadium

The funniest part is that Boise State is apparently selling this stuff off, which means somewhere out there is a spreadsheet of yard lines available for purchase. Someone owns the 35. Someone else is going to own the 50. And come July, the Chicago office is going to look like a tiny outpost of Albertsons Stadium dropped into the middle of a podcast studio. Stupid in the best possible way.
