There's a bit brewing on the Quick Picks show that's quickly becoming the funniest running gag in Barstool's gambling content, and it has nothing to do with sharp money or model-built edges. Blutman has apparently decided that the best way to find a winning MLB prop is to chat up whichever stranger he happens to bump into that day, then bet whatever they tell him at plus money on DraftKings.
The premise got rolling earlier this week when Blutman revealed his Monday pick came from a pilot — yes, an actual airline pilot — who tipped him on Munetaka Murakami for 5+ hits/runs/RBIs. Trust the guy flying the plane, trust the guy reading the box scores. Same thing, basically.
The pilot pick set the template: random professional, big-number prop, full conviction.
Twenty-four hours later, the source pool got even shallower. Tuesday's quick pick was Elly De La Cruz to record 4+ hits/runs/RBIs at roughly +340, and the insider this time was a lifeguard. The Reds shortstop is one of the few hitters in baseball who can actually clear that bar in a single night — steals count, extra-base hits stack, and his ceiling is real — so the prop isn't crazy. The wordplay basically writes itself — a lifeguard threw him a line, he's in the deep end, the pick is a saver. Barstool's main account leaned all the way into it, and at this point you have to assume Wednesday's tip is coming from a guy at the deli counter or someone Blutman met in line at the DMV.

None of this is real handicapping and that's the entire point. It's a gambling bit dressed up as a pick, and it works because Elly De La Cruz is exactly the kind of player where a 4+ H/R/RBI night feels like a coin flip you'd actually take. If it hits, the lifeguard becomes a legend. If it doesn't, the next stranger is already on deck.
