Pete Thamel reported the Chippewas have named Angel Flores their starter for the season opener at New Mexico, while junior Jadyn Glasser, who won the job for stretches of 2025 before a serious injury wiped out his season, is also expected to see the field.

Now he's the guy, not the complement.
Flores is a Northern Arizona transfer who played nine games at U last year. He’s a dual threat, as he’s totaled 890 rush yards and 16 TD on ground and 1,033 passing yards and 10 TDs in his 21-game college career.

That's a dual-threat profile built more on legs than arm right now, which tracks with how CMU used him a year ago.
Glasser's path back is the other half of this story. He looked like the future in Week 2 against Pitt, completing 7 of 9 passes for 78 yards and adding a rushing score, before an undisclosed injury ended his 2025 season and kept him out for the final 11 games. Getting him on the field in Week 1, even in a complementary role behind Flores, is a real marker that he's fully healthy heading into the year.
None of this is small stakes for a Chippewas program trying to build off last season. Handing the reins to a transfer with one full year in the building, while working a returning starter back in around him, is a bet that CMU's two best quarterback options can coexist rather than compete. New Mexico on the road is the first real test of whether that plan actually works.
