WSD vs Cheah: The Yo-Yo Debate Eating The Yak

By Vinnie the Gooch·1 min read

White Sox Dave and Steven Cheah have turned a stupid hypothetical into the funniest running bit on Barstool this week, and the Stoolies are eating it up.

Every great Barstool argument starts the same way: with a question nobody actually needs answered. This time it's a would-you-rather so dumb it's perfect. Would you rather be the single best yo-yo guy on the planet, or the 1,000th best person at throwing a football? That's the hill Dave and Cheah have decided to die on, and to their credit, neither one is backing down.

Dave is dragging Cheah into the squared circle on this one and inviting everyone to watch it play out in real time. The Yak format is basically built for these kinds of arguments — low stakes, high commitment, two guys refusing to admit the other has a point. The longer it goes the funnier it gets, because somewhere along the way you stop caring about the answer and start caring about who breaks first.

And the Stoolies are doing what they always do — pulling the funniest 90 seconds out of a two-hour show and setting it loose. The clip cuts straight to the bit and lets you decide who actually has the better case. Spoiler: there is no good case. They're arguing about yo-yos.

The replies are where it really takes off. The best argument against the yo-yo guy might be the simplest one anybody's offered yet — if a five-year-old can theoretically be the best in the world at it, the ceiling is doing a lot of the talking. That's the kind of reply-guy logic that quietly wins debates while the actual debaters are still yelling at each other.

This is the Yak at its best. No news peg, no take that needs to age well, just two guys who are way too invested in a question that doesn't matter. Give it 48 hours and somebody on the show will be defending the 10,000th best curler. That's the whole appeal.
