Chef Donny teaches Dana Beers a sloppy joe hack

The sandwich is about as basic as lunch gets. The pitch is that Donny has a trick for it, and Dana is the one who gets to learn it.

That's the whole setup. Donny works the pot in a red Heinz Verified apron, so yes, this one has a sponsor, and Dana stands at the cutting board holding the ketchup. Sloppy joes are lunch-lady food. Nobody needs a culinary degree to brown some beef and dump sauce on it. That's why a hack is such a good hook: if a trick improves the most idiot-proof sandwich in America, you want to know what it is.

This isn't Dana's first time on the show, either. Donny posted a What's For Lunch episode with Dana back in July 2024, so the two have done this before. This time Donny is running the kitchen and Dana is mostly there to learn and eat.

The cutdown says the hack will change Dana's life, which is standard branded-content hype. It doesn't show what the hack actually is. You'll have to watch the full episode for that. The best shot is the end, when a bun gets dragged through the leftover filling on the plate. That tells you more about how it went than any promo line.

Donny has been a constant presence around the office lately, and the guys have noticed. On Wake Up Barstool on September 25, with Dana on the panel, T-Bob brought up the new grill in the office backyard and made it Donny's job to use it.

A sloppy joe tutorial for Dana isn't quite T-Bob's vision of Donny feeding the whole crew off the grill, but it's a start. The full episode is out now. If the hack is as good as advertised, expect Dana to make it his whole personality for a week.
