Recruiting hype for a kid who can't even drive yet usually feels premature. Not this time. Christopher Vargas is a 6'5", 205-pound rising junior out of St. John's Prep in Massachusetts, and he's already the No. 1 quarterback in the 2028 class according to Rivals. Now he's got a date on the calendar to end the speculation.

Rivals' Hayes Fawcett broke the news that Vargas will announce his commitment on August 8, and the recruiting world immediately started handicapping the field. Vargas is sitting on 20 Division I offers, with Power Four programs like Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan and Oregon all in the mix, according to Eleven Warriors. But the smart money is on Ohio State.

Vargas has talked about building a relationship with the Buckeyes staff for 2-3 years now, and he's praised Ryan Day specifically as a "QB developer" who's turned out arms like C.J. Stroud and Jordan Love — the two players Vargas says he models his own game after. That's not the kind of quote a kid drops on a program he's not seriously considering.
