The Cubs walked into Coors Field with the usual altitude warnings, and Steven Cheah leaned into the under. Cubs offense had been dragging, the lineup was scuffling, and 6.5 felt like a reasonable line to fade. Classic 2026 Cubs energy: trust the pitching, don't trust the bats.

Then the actual game started and the script flipped fast. The bats finally showed up too. Seiya Suzuki cleared the bases for what the broadcast tagged as his 10th homer of the year, vaulting the Cubs from 0-1 to 4-1 in the top of the 4th. For a lineup that had been begging for a real swing, the slam was the loudest answer they'd given in weeks — and it set the tone for a night that absolutely was not going under 6.5.

Alex Bregman piled on later, going deep for his 6th of the season to push the lead to 8-2. Which is where it gets fun, because earlier in the day Eric Hosmer had gone on a podcast and publicly waved off the Bregman panic — said he wasn't worried about him at all. Cheah pulled the quote and stapled it to the homer in real time, the rare 'aged well in 6 hours' take.

By the time the W flag went up, the under was cooked, the lineup looked alive, and Hosmer suddenly looked like a prophet. Not bad for a night that started with everyone betting on the Cubs to not score.
