Big Cat Walks Back The Cubs Sweep Guarantee

By Vinnie the Gooch·2 min read

Big Cat called his shot on a Rockies sweep, the Cubs immediately dropped another to Colorado, and the entire Stool spent the night roasting the call and the team.

There is a specific kind of pain that comes with publicly guaranteeing a sweep against a last-place team and then watching your guys cough up the very first game of the series. Big Cat lived it last night, and to his credit, he came out before the loss was even cold and ate the call on main. No spin, no qualifiers, just a hand-up admission tagged directly at Eddie, who has been begging the universe for any sign of life out of this Cubs club for weeks.

Big Cat preemptively walked back the sweep guarantee while the loss was still in progress.

I know I told you we were sweeping the Rockies. But I’d like to give an update and we may not be sweeping the Rockies @EddieBarstool. Hand up. That’s on me

The dagger inside the dagger was how it happened. The Cubs had their chances and squandered them in the most Cubs way imaginable, including a Nico Hoerner comebacker that Cheah said was the easiest ground ball a pitcher has ever fielded. When the guy who is paid to find the silver lining is roasting your two-hole hitter for hitting the ball directly into the pitcher's glove, the vibes are not good.

Cheah lit up Nico Hoerner for the softest comebacker imaginable.

That comebacker to the pitcher by Nico was maybe the easiest ground ball a pitcher ever fielded. It went right into his glove didn’t even have to move.

By the time the final out was recorded, Big Cat had downgraded the prediction from a sweep to a hopeful 2-of-3 — which he noted would be the first time in forever — and the rest of the office was openly cackling. WSD checked in from his nightly orbit just to make sure the rest of the world knew that yes, the Cubs lost to the ROCKIES, and yes, he was going to bed laughing about it.

WSD logged on purely to cackle at the scoreboard before bed.

Wait wtf? The Cubs lost to the ROCKIES???? 😂😂😂😂 Whatta day. I'm going to bed

Eddie, meanwhile, is the canary in the coal mine. He strolled in from After Dark to discover his team had lost again and announced he is dangerously close to flipping the switch into full I-hate-this-team mode. For Cubs fans who have ridden the Eddie emotional rollercoaster for years, that is the real headline here — not the sweep call, not the comebacker, but the fact that the most loyal voice in the building is starting to crack.

Eddie admitted he is one bad night away from full hate mode.

Just got home from After Dark. What a surprise they lost again! I’m very close to being in “I hate this team” mode

Two games to go in Colorado and the standard has officially been lowered from broom to please-just-take-one. That is where this team is right now, and that is why one tossed-off sweep guarantee turned into a full night of Stool guys roasting each other into the morning.
