Dana Beers Tells Large About His Deion Sanders Year

Before Coach Prime was a Prime Video show and Deion Sanders was the biggest name in college football, a Barstool guy was down in Mississippi with a camera every day. That guy was Dana Beers. Now he has told the story on Large's food podcast, which is exactly the kind of odd pairing that tends to get the best stories out of people.

Dana posted a clip from the episode Monday night and pushed people toward the full thing. His pitch was simple: people forget this happened. Watch the clip and you get a studio sit-down cut together with older footage, which makes it a very personal retelling, not a highlight reel.

People forget @danabeers lived in Mississippi for a year filming a Deion Sanders documentary

He's right that people forget. Coach Prime started out on Barstool's YouTube channel on August 29, 2021, following Deion's first real run as head coach at Jackson State. The project was a joint venture between Barstool and SMAC Entertainment, Michael Strahan's company. Dana spent about a year in Jackson filming Deion day in and day out, and that's a big ask for a Massachusetts kid who got his start as Pardon My Take's production intern in 2016.

It grew from there. In October 2022, Coach Prime was announced as a 4-part docuseries headed to Prime Video that December, produced by Prime Video Sports and SMAC. Once it landed on Amazon and Deion took off for Colorado, the Barstool-era beginning mostly dropped out of the conversation. Most people who know the show now have no idea it started as a Barstool YouTube series.

Large has been all over the Barstool network this fall, too. Last week he hopped on the Dog Walk for their snake draft of things not worth overpaying for.
