Dave Portnoy fires back at Out and About checked-out talk

TLDR: Dave Portnoy went on camera to answer talk on Out and About that younger Barstool employees don't respect the brand and that he's checked out, and he said running the New York office isn't his job anymore.

El Pres didn't let the Out and About talk sit for long. He went straight to camera from his home office, and this is the line that spread.

“If you’re expecting me to live in a city that I despise and go into an office every single day so I can whip Klemmer into shape and whip these people in the New York office into shape and so I can put my foot down that Nate stops making these disgusting videos and embarrassing himself and and the whole company on an international scale… That’s not my job anymore” -@stoolpresidente

That's the whole argument. Portnoy doesn't deny he's further from the day-to-day. He says that's on purpose. He isn't going to live in a city he despises and clock in every morning to babysit Klemmer, crack down on the New York office, or stop Nate from making videos he calls embarrassing for the whole company "on an international scale." In his telling, being the guy who polices all of that stopped being his job a while ago.

Kelly Keegs, one of the Out and About voices being answered, pushed back on the wording but mostly agreed with where he ended up. She says nobody on the show used the phrase "checked out." She also says Dave is right that to everything there is a season.

My thoughts on the talk that younger employees don’t respect the brand and that I’m checked out #DDTG

In the building, the shots at Klemmer and Nate drew more attention than the culture debate. Sports Central spent part of its 10-7 episode on the fallout. The framing was that Nate wouldn't help Klemmer with a video and Klemmer is furious about it, which reads more like office trolling than an actual blowup.

Nate refused to help Klemmer with this video and Klemmer is PISSED

Should we put Fasoli in charge of the New York office? t.co/QZmKOOWn0O

By the evening the Out and About regulars were clearly enjoying the noise. Pat had already called the Nate line a very rude, very nasty ricochet shot. Later, in the replies under the Out and About thread, he laughed at everyone online who took the whole thing seriously.

@VivaLaStool @OutandAboutpod @kellykeegs @barstoolsports @barstoolunnamed So many reply jesters thinking this was serious 😂😂

Not everyone in that thread was laughing it off, though. Mintzy replied under the same post with a lot less patience.

@VivaLaStool @OutandAboutpod @kellykeegs @BarstoolPAT @barstoolsports @barstoolunnamed This clip can’t be real. The entitlement melts my mind

Strip away the bits and this is a real question about Barstool's next era. The founder says he'll lead from wherever he wants instead of from a desk in Manhattan, and the younger staff is debating that openly on company podcasts. That's Barstool being Barstool. Expect Nate to get a rebuttal video out quickly, and expect Klemmer to keep getting dragged into it whether he likes it or not.
