The Dolphins and All-Pro linebacker Jordyn Brooks have agreed to a 3-year, $51.3 million extension with $35 million guaranteed, a deal put together by agent Erik Burkhardt of Roc Nation Sports. It's the kind of move that doesn't grab headlines like a blockbuster trade, but for a Miami defense trying to find its identity under new coordinator Jeff Hafley, it's arguably the most important signing of the offseason.
Jordan Schultz broke the terms of the extension and tied Brooks directly to Hafley's new-look defense.
Brooks earned every dollar of it. He led the NFL in tackles last season with 183, good enough for First-Team All-Pro and his first Pro Bowl nod. It's actually the second time he's paced the league in that category, having also done it back in 2021 during his Seattle days. Over the last two seasons, no one in football has racked up more tackles than Brooks.

Brooks signed his first Dolphins deal in free agency back in 2024 after 4 years in Seattle, where he was a first-round pick in 2020 and set a franchise record for tackles in a season. That original contract was set to run out after this year, which put Miami in a spot: pay up now or risk losing a defensive centerpiece for nothing. According to Jordan Schultz, the Dolphins fielded plenty of trade calls on Brooks this offseason and shut every one of them down.
Schultz reported Miami had no interest in trading Brooks despite outside interest, seeing him as a leader for Hafley's defense.
