It started with Dante tagging Donnie, holding a jar and pitching it like he was sure of it.

Look at how he worded it. Dante was already nominating the "first item of the condiments club," so the idea was around before Donnie made it official. About 12 minutes later, Donnie laid out the rules and gave Dante the first pick.

That's the whole format. Once a month the group tries a new condiment, then everyone gets in a Twitter Space to argue about its pros and cons. It's a book club where the book is something you put on a sandwich, and honestly it's a better idea than most book clubs because people actually finish the assignment.

The pick is a strong one. Bomba Calabrese is a hot pepper paste from Calabria, the toe of Italy's boot, made with Calabrian chiles, which are hot but also a little fruity. People put it on pizza, pasta, eggs and pretty much any sandwich. It isn't a flavored mayo, so the club's first pick has real heat.

It also makes sense that Dante got the first slot. Around the Barstool orbit he's the guy who knows people and always has a suggestion. A week earlier on a Barstool Chicago draft about things not worth overpaying for, one of the voices at the table gave him credit for the only nightclub trips he's put up with in a decade.

So Dante does the vouching and everyone else gets to test it. The line he put on it, "This stuff will blow your mind," is exactly what gets picked apart when you're reviewing something live with an audience.

What to watch: the first Space. Donnie hasn't posted a date yet, so it's still unclear whether the Bomba review lands before October is out, who else gets on the mic, and who's lined up to nominate month 2. If the jar lives up to Dante's pitch, he's a good judge of taste. If it's too spicy for the room, he'll be hearing about it for the next 11 months.
