The Experts Are Inevitable: Back-to-Back Dozen Champions

Fran, PFT, and BFW just made Dozen Trivia history — the first team ever to go back-to-back.

Tournament 6 of The Dozen Trivia came down to The Experts versus Uptown Balls, and when the dust settled at The Vic, it wasn't even a question. The Experts — Fran, PFTCommenter, and BFW — claimed their second straight Fred McGraff Championship Trophy, becoming the first squad in the show's history to repeat. No team had ever done it. They did it without breaking a sweat.

The blueprint was the same as last year: Fran carries the Celebrity Mashup round, the team answers the tough questions, and opponents spend the back half trying to dig out of a hole. In Tournament 6 she did it again, putting the Experts up 3-1 over Uptown Balls early with another flawless celeb-face identification — this time nailing a mashup of Olivia Cooke and David Corenswet without flinching. The @TheDozenTrivia account put it plainly: 'Fran is inevitable.'

The match had its moments of internal drama too. Tied 6-6 heading into the Movies round, a question about a 2019 Jennifer Lopez dramedy about strippers scamming Wall Street traders came up — the answer being Hustlers. Fran apparently had it. BFW burned the Phone-a-Friend lifeline anyway. Internal chaos, fully documented on camera.

Somehow they still won. The Experts clawed back from a deficit in the second half, with the niche double-points round on U.S. Military Fighter Aircraft doing serious damage to Uptown Balls' hopes. By Round 12 Geography, it was over in all but name. PFT confirmed the full picture after the match: 17-1 on the season, a near-perfect run through Tournament 6, and a trophy they get to keep for another year.

PFT Commenter: Congrats to @BarstoolFran and @BFW. Back to back @TheDozenTrivia champs.

Uptown Balls' Tommy Smokes was gracious in defeat, noting that his team is probably an even-year squad and will be back — presumably in 2028. Meanwhile, Jeff D. Lowe didn't waste any time. Minutes after the confetti dropped, he announced that the league office would be convening to figure out how to slow super teams down. First item on the agenda: no niche category repeats in a single match. Whether that's sour grapes or genuine competitive balance reform depends on your loyalties. Either way, The Experts aren't losing sleep.

Congratulations to The Experts on going back-to-back. In unrelated news, the league office will be getting together to figure out ways to make it harder for super teams in matches. First order of business: no niche category repeats at any point.
