The Internet Loses It Over the New Dune Trailer

Warner Bros dropped the first real look at Dune: Part Three and Barstool accounts immediately started planning their December 18 theater run.

Denis Villeneuve's Dune trilogy has been building to this for years, and now there's finally a date and a trailer to obsess over. Part Three adapts Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah, the book that flips Paul Atreides from chosen-one hero into something a lot darker, and the new footage leans into that shift hard.

Jeff D. Lowe kicked off the day by hyping the trailer drop, pairing the news with an unrelated Jurgen Klopp fist-pump celebration just to bring the energy.

That Klopp clip has nothing to do with Arrakis, obviously. It's just a guy who understands that a trailer this big deserves a full-send celebration clip regardless of source material. That's the tone for the whole day: less measured film discourse, more pure reaction content.

The actual trailer, posted straight from the source, shows exactly what fans have been waiting for: robed figures crossing a rusted, X-barrier-lined desert hilltop, an aerial night shot of shadowy figures moving across a stepped stone structure, and an emotional embrace between two kneeling figures surrounded by fog and helmeted soldiers. It's classic Villeneuve, all scale and silence.

The cast is stacked even by Dune standards. Timothee Chalamet is back as Paul, Zendaya returns as Chani, and Robert Pattinson joins the ensemble as Scytale, reportedly the film's antagonist opposite Paul's descent. Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy and Rebecca Ferguson all round out the returning cast, with Jason Momoa's son Nakoa-Wolf Momoa stepping in to play Paul and Chani's son Leto II. Basically, if you loved the first two movies, there's no reason to sit this one out.

Naturally, the reaction content came fast. One post imagined the emotional toll of actually watching this thing in theaters, playing it as a full physical collapse in the lobby the second the credits roll. It's a joke, but it's also not that far off from how people are going to feel walking out of this one in December.

Other accounts skipped the jokes and went straight to logistics, showing a group heading through an AMC lobby past the A-List priority ropes, the universal signal that opening weekend plans are already locked in. Five months out and people are already scoping theaters. That's the kind of anticipation Villeneuve's Dune has earned after two movies that actually delivered.

December 18 is a while away, but with a Dune Messiah adaptation promising to darken Paul's arc and a villain-coded Robert Pattinson entering the sandbox, this is shaping up to be one of the biggest theater events of the year. The trailer did its job. Everyone's already counting down.
