Emmanuel Ogbah is coming home. Adam Schefter broke the news that the free-agent defensive end is signing a one-year deal with the Chiefs, bringing him back to the franchise he won a Super Bowl with.
This isn't Ogbah's first time trying to get back to Arrowhead, either. Kansas City tried to re-sign him in 2024 and lost out when he chose to stay in Miami instead. That version of Ogbah delivered too, racking up 19 pressures and 5 sacks in a full-time starting role for the Dolphins that year. His path back to Kansas City has taken 6 years and 2 other stops, but it's finally happening now that both sides have circled back around to each other.
The timing tells you exactly why the Chiefs made this move. Kansas City reportedly chased Cam Jordan before the 16-year Saints legend re-signed with New Orleans back in June, and the edge room has looked thin ever since. George Karlaftis is the lone sure thing up front, with Ashton Gillotte, Felix Anudike-Uzomah and rookie R Mason Thomas rounding out the top of the depth chart -- and after that group, it's a steep drop to a bunch of undrafted names nobody's heard of yet.
Ogbah's production has cooled off since that big Miami year. He spent 2025 in Jacksonville playing a rotational role, finishing with just half a sack and 7 pressures across 383 snaps -- a quiet season by his own standards. At 32, he's not walking into a starting job. He's walking into a battle for a backup role and a roster spot, with training camp cuts looming later this month.
What he does bring is familiarity. Ogbah already knows defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's scheme from his time in Kansas City the first go-around, which should shorten the learning curve for a guy trying to prove he still has something left in a crowded pass-rush room. Whether that's enough to earn real snaps behind Karlaftis and company is the thing to watch as camp rolls on.
