This whole thing has been building for weeks. Enes Kanter Freedom declared himself eligible for the 2027 WNBA Draft, claiming the league's rules around self-identification made him a prospect. The WNBA's actual CBA says no such thing, and multiple league sources made clear he was never getting drafted. But Kanter Freedom kept pushing the bit anyway, and Sunday it landed him in the middle of a Sky-Fever game he wasn't even supposed to be watching from courtside.
According to ESPN, Kanter Freedom showed up wearing a black T-shirt reading "WOMAN noun. adult human female," and his tickets weren't purchased under his own name. His manager gave the Sky's GM a heads-up roughly 3.5 hours before tipoff. During the third quarter of Sunday's loss to Indiana, Cloud walked over to him after a timeout was called and started shouting. Kanter Freedom stood with his arms outstretched and took a few steps toward the court before security stepped in and walked him out.

Two days later, the Sky made it permanent. Owner Michael Alter didn't hedge: "He has demonstrated to us, unequivocally, that he has the potential to be a threat." Alter added Kanter Freedom won't be allowed back in Wintrust Arena unless he can prove he's capable of following the team's rules without escalating things with players.

After being escorted out Sunday, he posted online claiming he'd been ejected "for supporting WOMEN," reframing a security incident as a martyrdom moment. That's been the pattern with his whole draft campaign: provoke, get a reaction, cast himself as the victim.
The ban doesn't end the saga, it just moves it off Sky property. Kanter Freedom has shown no sign of dropping the 2027 draft push despite league sources shutting the door on his eligibility, and Wintrust Arena being off-limits won't stop him from showing up at other venues or finding new ways to insert himself into the conversation. For the Sky and for Cloud specifically, Sunday was the breaking point — but given his track record, it's unlikely to be the last confrontation of this saga.
