UTampa Spartans Bring The Lacrosse Crown Back To Florida

BarstoolGruden spent the week barnstorming the Final Four circuit, but the only locker room he truly belongs to just hoisted the trophy. The University of Tampa Spartans are national champions.

This was a redemption tour from the jump. The Spartans had Adelphi circled on the calendar from the moment last year ended, and the rematch finally landed on championship Sunday. You could feel the chip on the shoulder before opening face-off — a year of waiting, one shot to flip the result.

Adelphi didn't exactly come in quiet either. There was trash talk flying in the hours before face-off, the kind of stuff that makes a championship feel like a championship instead of a coronation. Former Adelphi coach and current NFL agent Peter Schaffer was even pulled into the buildup, which tells you how big the rematch felt on both sidelines.

Then the Spartans went out and finished the job. The reaction was about what you'd expect from a guy who basically adopted this program as his own — pure, unfiltered, voice-cracking joy. This wasn't a neutral observer call. This was a fan getting his team.

The follow-up message was the real one, though. Credit straight to Coach Clarke and his staff, and a salute to a locker room that, in his words, deserved every bit of this. That's the part you can't manufacture — a coach building a culture in Tampa that produces a group nobody around the program is surprised to see hoisting hardware. Spartan nation eats tonight.

The shout-out to Coach Clarke, his staff, and the championship locker room.

Just the way a championship game should be!! Congratulations to both teams but most of all congratulations to the champions!! I know the heart and soul of this locker room. Congratulations the Coach Clarke and his staff the Spartan nation is going crazy!!

And while the DI Final Four down in Charlottesville got most of the lacrosse oxygen this weekend — Princeton and Notre Dame both getting their flowers along the way — the story that hit home was the one in Tampa. The Spartans waited a full calendar year for this rematch. They didn't blink.
