There is a version of the NHL playoffs where teams limp through rounds, trade haymakers, and arrive at the conference finals already half-dead. The Hurricanes are not playing that version. They are playing some other game entirely — a structured, suffocating, machine-like game where the opponent gets a couple of looks, maybe sneaks a goal, and then watches Carolina methodically take the night back. Blake's overtime goal closed out a sweep that, if you watched it, never really felt like a series. Philly hung around because that is what Philly does, but the Canes' forecheck has been a meat grinder, the neutral zone is a wall, and you could feel the inevitability building game over game. Even the people on the Barstool side who are openly tired of watching the Carolina blueprint had to tip the cap.

Carolina being 8-0 without giving up more than 2 goals in any game is a sick joke. Is it metro being fraudulent or are they just that good. I think it may be the latter
The honest answer is probably both, and it does not really matter. Carolina has been knocking on this door for years — second-round exits, conference final stumbles, the Rod Brind'Amour era pushing the boulder up the hill and watching it roll back. This run is different. They are not just winning, they are not letting opponents breathe. Whoever crawls out of the next round is going to meet a rested, undefeated, ruthlessly structured team that is finally looking like it might actually finish the job.
