Jeshaun Jones Back For Vikings As NFL Lifts Suspension

TLDR: The NFL officially lifted Jeshaun Jones' 3-game substances-of-abuse suspension Monday, clearing the Vikings receiver to rejoin the team this week, just a day after Justin Jefferson sprained his ankle.
Jeshaun Jones is back in the building. The league made it official Monday: the 3-game suspension that kept the Vikings wideout out of the first 3 weeks of the season is done, and the commissioner signed off on his return. Minnesota's receiver room could use the extra body. Only one other name came off the list Monday, a Buffalo player, and that's the whole news cycle.

That other name is Bills defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis, who got cleared the same day. For Minnesota, the timing is what matters. Ben Goessling spelled it out: the suspension is over, the commissioner lifted it today, and Jones can come back to the team this week.
Vikings wide receiver Jeshaun Jones' three-week suspension for violating the league's substances of abuse policy is over, and was officially lifted by the commissioner today. He can return to the team this week.
Here's how he got suspended. Jones was arrested in Hillsborough County, Florida, in April for refusing to take a breath test to check his blood-alcohol level. In July he pleaded no contest to a lesser reckless driving charge, and the league hit him with 3 games under the substance abuse policy. The suspension started after roster cuts on August 30, and he was allowed to finish training camp and the preseason before that. In the preseason loss to the Ravens he caught 5 balls for 63 yards, which is a big part of why he made the 53 in the first place.
Don't get carried away. Jones is 26, he signed as an undrafted free agent in 2024, and he spent 2 years on the practice squad. His regular-season résumé is 1 special teams appearance in 2025. CBS Sports expects him to be mostly a special teams guy when he comes back, not someone who changes the offense.
Still, the Vikings need bodies, and that's because of Justin Jefferson. On Sunday against Tampa Bay, Jefferson sprained his ankle on the opening drive after 7 snaps and 2 catches for 32 yards. He didn't come back. Minnesota won anyway, and the follow-up was about as good as it could be: according to reports, imaging showed no long-term damage and there's a chance he plays in Week 4.
Next up is Miami at home on Sunday, October 4. If Jefferson plays, Jones is a depth piece who covers kicks behind Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Jauan Jennings and Tai Felton. If the ankle keeps Jefferson out, the depth chart shrinks fast, and a guy who was suspended 3 days earlier could be 1 injury away from real offensive snaps. Keep an eye on Jefferson's practice reports this week. They'll decide how much Jones actually matters on Sunday.
