What looked like a sleepy back-nine at the Memorial turned into one of the more entertaining Sunday leaderboards of the year. Tommy Fleetwood, Wyndham Clark, Sam Burns, Ryan Gerard and JT Poston all spent time tied at the top, and for a stretch there it felt like whoever poured in the next 15-footer was going to walk off with Jack's trophy.
Fleetwood was the first to actually break it open. Standing 239 out on the par-5 15th, he pulled a 9-wood, smoked it 156 mph off the face, and stuck it to about 4 feet. Tap-in eagle, solo lead, and finally a real reason to think the long-awaited Fleetwood victory lap was happening in Dublin, Ohio.

It didn't last. Sam Burns birdied while Poston bogeyed to pull within one. Then Ryan Gerard, the rookie nobody had on their bingo card, walked up and casually rolled in a 40-foot bomb to jump to -12 and take the solo lead himself. Five guys within a shot, three holes to play, complete chaos at Muirfield.

Gerard's vibes were immaculate the whole back nine. At one point a heckler yelled "Get in the bunker!" mid-swing and Gerard fired back "It's not in the bunker, dog!" without breaking stride. That's a guy playing with house money. Poston, meanwhile, was doing Postman things — quiet, methodical, then a clutch birdie on the last to drag Gerard into a playoff after Gerard saved par from nowhere.

Both parred 18 the first time through the playoff. Second time down 18, Poston finally closed the door. It's his 4th PGA Tour win, a signature event at Jack's place, and a brutal near-miss for Gerard, who probably deserved a different ending after the round he played. Oh, and somewhere a Barstool Gambling degenerate just cashed Poston at 140-1 — the kind of ticket you frame.
