Ryan Gerard rolled in a 40-footer to grab the solo lead late, threw in a heckler clapback that belongs on a highlight reel, and then had to grind out a par save just to drag J.T. Poston into a playoff. Poston, who's basically built a career on flying under the radar, eventually delivered on the 2nd playoff hole at Jack's Place for his 4th PGA Tour win.
Gerard's mid-shot back-and-forth with the heckler was the energy of the entire afternoon.
The Postman delivering at 140/1 was the kind of outright that makes degenerates believe again. And while Poston was hoisting the trophy, the U.S. Open final qualifiers across the country were running their own gauntlet — 17-year-old Miles Russell punched his ticket to Shinnecock with Charlie Woods on the bag, and Max Homa lipped out a par putt in an 8-for-3 playoff that ended his week in the most brutal way possible.
