Browns Get a Scare, Then a Sigh of Relief on KC Concepcion

Cleveland's rookie wideout went down hard on his shoulder at practice, but the team says the damage isn't serious.

For about an hour, Browns training camp had that sinking feeling every fanbase knows. A rookie goes down awkwardly, doesn't pop right back up, and everyone starts doing the math on how bad it could be. That's exactly what happened when KC Concepcion, Cleveland's first-round pick out of Texas A&M, fell hard on his shoulder and walked off the field.

The injury stung a little extra because of the timing. Concepcion had been flashing exactly why the Browns took him at 24th overall this spring, including on the very play that preceded the fall — he was running wide open before the tumble that knocked him out of the session.

It's also not the first health scare of the year for Concepcion. He had a knee scope back in March that raised some eyebrows about his readiness for camp, though he was ultimately cleared and has been full-go since practices opened. A shoulder injury on top of that would've been a rough sequel.

Thankfully, the follow-up news calmed things down. Jordan Schultz reported that sources close to the situation say Concepcion didn't suffer anything serious in the fall, and the team expects him to be fine going forward.

That's the best-case outcome for a Browns team that's counting on Concepcion to be a real weapon in year one. He's had a strong start to camp by all accounts, and a real shoulder injury this early would've been a brutal setback for a wideout room that needs him healthy come September. For now, it looks like Cleveland dodged a bullet — but expect the team to be cautious with his reps the next few days just to be safe.
