Keenan Allen Signs With Colts, Reunites With Shane Steichen

The Colts landed a six-time Pro Bowler on a 1-year, up-to-$8.32M deal, and it's already scrambling the fantasy outlook for Josh Downs and Alec Pierce.

Keenan Allen is headed to Indianapolis. Jordan Schultz broke the news late Monday night that the Colts are signing the six-time Pro Bowl wideout to a 1-year deal worth up to $8.32M, with the real hook being the coach on the other end of it: Shane Steichen, who was Allen's offensive coordinator in Los Angeles back in 2019 and 2020.

This isn't just a name-value signing. The Colts traded away Michael Pittman Jr. to the Steelers back in March, leaving a genuine hole at veteran receiver. Schultz noted the Colts had been talking to Allen for weeks, and the pull of reuniting with Steichen was reportedly what got the deal over the line.

Allen is 34 now, but he's stayed remarkably durable — missing just two games over the last two seasons, per reporting on the deal. He spent 2025 back with the Chargers on a modest contract, leading the team with 122 targets for 789 receiving yards. Now he's plugging into a Colts offense that already has Daniel Jones playing well, Jonathan Taylor in the backfield and Tyler Warren at tight end, giving Allen a legitimate reason to sign at this stage of his career.

Naturally, the fantasy world reacted like the world was ending for everyone not named Allen. SleeperNFL called it an 'absolute disaster' for Josh Downs, who was in line for a bigger role after the Pittman trade before this signing muddied the target share.

oh god this is an absolute disaster for Josh Downs

Alec Pierce isn't spared either. He's reportedly still working back from offseason ankle surgery, and fans piled on with jokes about the injury and even dragged Philip Rivers into it — a nod to Allen's old Chargers pairing, not a real update on Rivers coming out of retirement.

Insurance for #AlexPierce? Maybe #PhilipRivers will come back & throw to his long time WR 🤣

Schultz's own projected depth chart still has Pierce, Allen and Downs all starting alongside Jones, Taylor and Warren — which is either a stacked room or a crowded one, depending on who's catching targets come September. Either way, Steichen just added a proven veteran chain-mover to an offense that was already trending up, and the ripple effects for Indy's other pass-catchers are the thing to watch the rest of camp.
