Kenneth Walker III is about to feed in Kansas City

Kansas City didn't sign a Super Bowl MVP to split carries. That's the read coming out of Chiefs camp, where ESPN's Dan Graziano dropped a report that immediately set fantasy Twitter on fire: Kenneth Walker III isn't just the starter in KC, he's about to be the workhorse the Chiefs backfield hasn't had in years.

Walker landed in Kansas City this offseason on a 3-year, $43.05 million deal with $28.7 million fully guaranteed, walking away from Seattle right after the best moment of his career. He carried the ball 27 times for 135 yards in Super Bowl LX and took home MVP honors, cementing himself as one of the league's more physical downhill runners. The catch in Seattle was he never got the workload to match the talent -- Zach Charbonnet was chewing into his goal-line work the whole time.

That competition doesn't exist in Kansas City. The Chiefs let both Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt walk this offseason, clearing the runway for Walker to be the unquestioned lead back behind an offensive line that's supposed to be improved. With Patrick Mahomes working back from a torn ACL, the expectation is Andy Reid leans on the ground game more than usual to start the year -- which only stacks more touches onto Walker's plate.

None of that means it'll be pretty every snap. A clip of Walker getting popped on a hit made the rounds this week, a reminder that workhorse volume comes with workhorse-level punishment.

Fantasy analysts have taken notice regardless. The Yahoo Fantasy crew has been banging the drum on Walker all offseason, and this latest report only reinforced the bullish case -- a talented back inheriting a clean depth chart in a offense that should throw fewer bodies in his way near the goal line.

Walker's Seattle tape says he's a low-end RB2 with RB1 upside if the volume ever showed up. Now the volume is reportedly showing up, in a Kansas City building that just watched its offense stall out for three straight years and is desperate for someone to change that. If the workhorse reports hold, Walker's fantasy stock -- and Chiefs fans' patience with the ground game -- both get a lot easier to trust.
