Kenyatta Watson out as Boston College football GM

TLDR: Boston College and general manager Kenyatta Watson have split in what sources call a mutual decision, ending the first GM tenure in program history after about 10 months.
The news broke midseason on a Tuesday afternoon, and it came from the top of the college football news chain.
Sources: Boston College football GM Kenyatta Watson is no longer with the school after a “mutual decision” to part. He’d been the GM there since December of 2025.
Calling it "mutual" is the polite version, and that's the version you get when nobody wants to say more. Either way, BC is about to fill the most important off-field seat in the building for the second time in under a year. This wasn't some hire from years ago, either. The school announced Watson as the first general manager in Boston College football history in December 2025, so he didn't even get a full calendar year in the job.
The hire looked like a slam dunk on paper. Watson is a BC guy. He played wide receiver and returned kicks for the Eagles from 1993-96, then built a résumé on the personnel side: director of player relations at Florida State, 2 seasons as Georgia Tech's director of scouting, and then 2 seasons as Auburn's assistant general manager for recruiting. BC's own release credited him with helping build top-10 recruiting classes on the Plains in 2024 and 2025.

On3 got its confirmation from Watson himself, and that matters a little. When the guy leaving is the one telling reporters he's gone, it reads more like an actual parting of ways than a firing dressed up in nicer words. Still, nobody has said publicly why it ended this fast, and until somebody does, the tea-leaf reading is going to run wild in Chestnut Hill.
This is a big deal because of how the job is built. The GM at BC runs high school recruiting and the transfer portal and helps steer NIL strategy. In the revenue-share era, that's pretty much the whole roster pipeline. A program like Boston College, which doesn't have SEC money, has to win by being smarter about evaluation and roster math than the schools that can outspend it. Losing the guy hired to do exactly that, in the middle of the season, is ugly timing.
Now the questions are who handles the portal and recruiting in the meantime, whether BC hires another outside GM or promotes from inside, and whether any recruits who committed to Watson's pitch start looking around. Signing day and the portal window are closer than they look. If BC wants this to stay a 1-day story, it needs an answer soon.
