Texas just locked up the nation's best 2027 running back

The recruiting world got its latest gut-punch to the Aggies on Saturday when Landen Williams-Callis, the crown jewel of the 2027 running back class, announced he's headed to Austin. Rivals' Hayes Fawcett broke the news, and the numbers behind it are absurd: 7,554 rushing yards and 133 touchdowns across just 3 varsity seasons.

That's not a typo, and it's not a slow build either. Williams-Callis is the reigning Gatorade Texas Football Player of the Year, and according to 247Sports he just put together one of the most productive junior seasons in the country, rushing for 3,502 yards and 59 touchdowns while averaging north of 10 yards a carry. At 5-foot-7.5 and 190 pounds, he's undersized on paper and irrelevant to the stat sheet — the tape just keeps saying the same thing over and over.

This isn't some out-of-nowhere phenom either. Per SI, Williams-Callis comes from bloodlines — his cousins James Rodgers and Jacquizz Rodgers both had real college and NFL careers, and his uncle Michael Lewis was a second-round pick out of Colorado. Running is apparently just what this family does.

The recruitment had been a two-horse race for a while, with Texas A&M pushing hard to keep the state's top back in College Station's driveway. Instead, Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns landed him, adding a five-star headliner to what's shaping up to be one of the best 2027 classes in the country — and handing Texas A&M another in-state loss it didn't need.

"It's all God's plan," Williams-Callis said of the decision, and at this point the plan looks pretty good for Texas. He's still got 2 more high school seasons to pad that absurd yardage total before he ever steps on campus, but the Longhorns already have their guy — and the rest of the country is left wondering how a 190-pound back just became this big of a get.
