Matt Damon's Mt. Rushmore Has Barstool At War

By Vinnie the Gooch·2 min read

A simple question — pick four Matt Damon roles, no more — has turned into a full-blown bracket fight inside Barstool, and the dividing line is whether a four-minute cameo counts as a top-four performance.

Every actor with a real career eventually gets the Mt. Rushmore treatment, and Damon is overdue. The guy has an Oscar for writing, an action franchise (Bourne), a heist franchise (Ocean's), a space movie that printed money (The Martian), and somehow also Eurotrip. Trying to cut that down to four is genuinely hard, which is exactly why the bit works.

Cons came in with the reasonable-adult ballot: Rounders, Ocean's 11, The Martian, Courage Under Fire, with Air as the honorable mention. It's a defensible four. Rounders alone is a Barstool sacred text, Ocean's is the cultural pick, The Martian is the box-office heavyweight, and Courage Under Fire is the deep cut that says you actually know Damon's filmography and aren't just listing whatever's on TNT this weekend.

Then comes the chaos ballot. Good Will Hunting (fine, obvious), Rounders (agreed), Saving Private Ryan (sure), and… Eurotrip. A cameo. A four-minute, pre-fame cameo where Damon shows up with a shaved head screaming 'Scotty Doesn't Know.' That's the swing — leaving off Bourne, leaving off The Martian, leaving off Ocean's, all to make room for a bit part.

And honestly? The defense holds up better than it should. The Eurotrip cameo is, by any reasonable measure, the most quoted thing in the movie. Damon walks in, owns the opening, and walks out, and twenty-plus years later people still know the song. The 'five touchdowns in four minutes' framing is the whole argument in one line — efficiency over volume.

There's no clean answer here, which is the point. Cons's list is the one you'd hand to a film professor; the Eurotrip ballot is the one you'd actually want to argue about at a bar. Both are correct in their own way, and neither side is backing down. Drop your four in the replies and pick a side.
