Maxx Crosby says he's a Raider for life

Adam Schefter dropped a report on Maxx Crosby that should make Raiders fans exhale, at least for now. Crosby has been telling people he's "all in" and wants to be a "Raider for life," the kind of quote that usually gets attached to guys who've earned the right to say it. Crosby has. He's been the best thing about a mostly miserable Raiders decade, and the idea of him playing out his career somewhere else has hovered over Las Vegas for a while now.

This isn't just a vibes thing, either. Crosby is locked into a 3-year, $106.5 million extension with $91.5 million guaranteed, and he's set to carry a $30 million base salary in 2026 with a cap hit north of $35 million, per Spotrac. That's the contract of a guy the Raiders committed to for the long haul — which makes the recurring trade chatter around him a little jarring.

And the chatter isn't new. This past season already saw a near-miss trade saga with the Ravens that ESPN detailed in depth, a deal that reportedly got close before falling apart. Crosby has publicly pushed back on the idea every time it resurfaces, insisting he wants to finish his career in a Raiders jersey. But the Raiders have been rebuilding for years without much to show for it, and rebuilding teams with a 28-year-old star on a market-value contract tend to field calls whether they want to or not.

That's the tension Schefter is pointing at. Crosby's own commitment isn't really in question — the guy has said this repeatedly and clearly means it. The question is whether Las Vegas keeps building around him or decides, as the deadline approaches, that a haul for a 28-year-old edge rusher is worth more than another lost season. Reports have floated teams like the Cowboys, Bills, Bears and Patriots as fits if the Raiders ever do pull the trigger, even as multiple team sources say they'd be surprised if it happens anytime soon.

For now, nothing has actually changed. Crosby's still a Raider, still saying the right things, and still one of the few reasons to watch that defense. But every trade deadline from here on out is going to bring this same question back up until Las Vegas either proves it, or doesn't.
