This wasn't a quick handshake. Per ESPN, the two sides went weeks at a time without talking, and Wilson turned down multiple offers before Wednesday night's late push finally got the deal across the finish line — his eventual average annual value landing nearly $10 million higher than the Cardinals' original offer. Wilson, a 2023 third-round pick out of Stanford, earned that leverage by exploding for 78 catches, 1,006 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2025, a 441-yard jump over his previous career high. That put him on the fringe of the league's top-10 receivers and gave Arizona no real choice but to pay him.
The Cardinals made it official Wednesday afternoon, and the celebration was immediate. Coach Mike LaFleur called it a win for everyone in the building, and the team framed Wilson's new deal as the latest piece of a young core — joining Trey McBride, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Jeremiyah Love — now locked up through at least 2029.

He's talked about wanting to be a cornerstone piece of a franchise turnaround — the kind of loyalty-over-leverage talk that doesn't always match how these negotiations play out.

Not everyone's fully sold on the numbers behind the breakout, though. Greg Auman pointed out that a huge chunk of Wilson's production came in games that were already decided — only Trey McBride had more catches than Wilson's 23 among players trailing by 17-plus points last season. It's the kind of stat that will follow Wilson into 2026 as he tries to prove the production holds up when games are still competitive.

Between the extension for Wilson and the deal that also locked in quarterback Jacoby Brissett, LaFleur's offense now has real continuity heading into the season — and for a franchise that's leaned on turnover for years, betting big on Wilson through 2029 is as clear a statement of direction as Arizona has made in a while.
