Mike Tomlin's Minecraft City EP 1 Drops Sept. 30, 8PM ET

TLDR: Mike Tomlin's 12-year Minecraft city got its YouTube premiere Wednesday, September 30, at 8 p.m. ET, and the Barstool crew spent the whole week acting like it was a primetime game.

The countdown went all the way to air on Wednesday afternoon, when the Yak pulled up the premiere page on the show.

Mike Tomlin's Minecraft world reveal will be must watch

That's the episode title, and it reads more like a real estate listing than a football coach's side project. Tomlin coached the Steelers for 19 seasons and is now a studio analyst on NBC's Football Night in America. Somewhere along the way he also spent 12 years building a city in Minecraft creative mode. The build has lived through the PlayStation 3, 4 and 5, which makes it older than a decent chunk of the guys he used to coach.

The backstory is the part that got to Big Cat. On the Yak on 2026-09-28, he explained it for anyone who missed it, and his version is pretty much the whole story.

“Mike Tomlin got into Minecraft to bond with his sons. His sons aged out. Mike Tomlin never did.” – Big Cat

That matches what Tomlin has said himself: he started playing when his kids were young and just never stopped. When he announced the reveal, the post reportedly pulled in more than 7 million views, and his YouTube channel climbed past 18,000 subscribers before he had uploaded a single video. The on-screen subscriber count in the Yak's clip was lower than that. Either way, a channel with nothing on it gaining that fast tells you people were going to show up.

The hype wasn't limited to the Yak, either. Wake Up Barstool picked a team of the week on Tuesday's show, and the Minecraft premiere played a big part in the choice.

“The Steelers the team of the week because we got Mike Tomlin's Minecraft reveal coming up.” – T-Bob

Tomlin has already said one video won't cover it. The full tour reportedly runs about 2 hours, so it's coming in parts, and EP 1 sticks to downtown: why he started the city, the first building he put up and the best rooftop properties. That means more episodes are on the way. Whether the internet stays this into a 12-year block city by episode 4 is the real question. Right now, an NFL coach with a better penthouse district than most real cities is the best thing going on Wednesday nights.
