Haaland, Nyland, and the Vikings Save Barstool's Kings Cup Souls

Norway survived an Ivory Coast equalizer, leaned on an 85th-minute Haaland winner, and needed a Nyland stoppage-time miracle to punch through to the next round of the 2026 World Cup…

For about 15 agonizing minutes, it looked like Barstool's Norway contingent was about to get sent home. The Elephants equalized in the 73rd minute in Dallas, pulling Ivory Coast level at 1-1 and silencing what had been a comfortable Norway lead. The crew that had been rowing all tournament — BarstoolHubbs, JeffDLowe, RobbieBarstool, JackKennedy — was watching their Kings Cup fate slip away in real time.

God fucking dammit Wake up Haaland!!! #KINGSCUP

Then Haaland did what Haaland does. The goal put Norway back in front, and suddenly it was all about surviving the final stretch. That meant leaning on goalkeeper Orjan Nyland, who came up enormous in the 95th minute — deep into 7 minutes of stoppage time — with a diving save to keep Ivory Coast out and seal the 2-1 result. Per PardonMyTake, it was Norway's first-ever win in a World Cup knockout match. First ever. Let that sink in.

The Barstool crew absolutely lost their minds. BarstoolHubbs screaming 'WHAT A FUCKING SAVE!! END THE GAME REF!' Robbie going full caps lock. JackKennedy calling them the Vikings moving on. JeffDLowe already pledging to drink only raw milk until Sunday's match against Brazil. These guys were invested in a way that goes beyond casual fandom — Norway is their Kings Cup team, and every result is both a football result and a Barstool bracket result.

Jameis Winston fully committed to the Norway bit in a Viking horned helmet and fur costume for Fox Sports outside the stadium.

The off-pitch entertainment was almost as good as the match itself. Jameis Winston showed up to the Fox Sports coverage in full Viking regalia — horned helmet, fur pelt, the whole thing — and the internet responded accordingly. Barstool's main account said 'protect this man at all costs,' which honestly feels like the correct take. Meanwhile, barstoolWSD was out here waving an Ivory Coast flag pregame, making a bold prediction about the Elephants planting 2 in the net. He was not right. The one bright spot for the Ivory Coast faithful: they equalized and made it a genuine scare before Norway's class came through. Back in the rows, the Norwegian fans packed subway cars doing their synchronized rowing chant both before and after the match — the Viking Row remains one of the most genuinely fun fan traditions at this tournament.

Norway moves to the next round of the 2026 World Cup, and the Kings Cup squad keeps rowing. Brazil is next on Sunday. JeffDLowe is apparently subsisting on raw milk until then. Nobody said the Kings Cup was easy.
