Ohio's Tate debuts on Barstool College Football Show Week 5

TLDR: Ohio's Tate got called up to the Barstool College Football Show desk for Week 5 when Dave Portnoy got sick, then spent his debut crediting Michigan Men and taking Rutgers +23.5.

Nobody planned this one. Tate got a text the night before taping, and by the next morning he was sitting in Dave's chair.

Last night I got a text that Dave Portnoy was sick and I was being called up to the big leagues. This morning I made my debut at the desk of the Barstool College Football Show. (Between us….ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?) Watch Here: t.co/8kAcSoJtFE

It's a wild month to get the call. A few weeks back Ohio State blew a 20-point fourth-quarter lead and lost 24-23 to Texas. That sent Tate to a McDonald's to pay off his own bet, where each Big Mac he ate knocked an hour off a 24-hour sentence. Now he's at the desk the same week the Buckeyes go to Iowa, filling in for a Michigan guy. The setup was begging for a cheap shot.

He didn't take it. The easy line was that Dave was faking sick to dodge talking about Michigan, and the clips went around with fans giving Tate credit for leaving that one alone. To be clear, nobody said it on air. The 'faking it' bit belongs to the people praising him for skipping it.

Credit to Tate for not doing any troll shit and for not saying that Dave is pretending to be sick because Michigan lost

He went a step further and said something nice about the rival. Tate is still Tate, Buckeye hat and Buckeye hoodie included, but he gave Michigan Men their due: they always show up after they've been embarrassed. It was backhanded, sure. For a guy who once ate 10 Big Macs because of a Texas loss, it still counts as restraint.

Tate is no Michigan fan, but he does know Michigan Men. @highnoonsunsips

Then the gambling segments started, and the rookie went straight to the deep end. The DraftKings Dark Horse Parlay is 4 underdogs, 1 per host. Big Cat took UConn +6.5, Brandon Walker took Clemson +16.5, Katic took Iowa +14.5, and Tate grabbed the biggest number on the board with Rutgers +23.5.

Ride with the Barstool College Football Show crew in week five for the DK Dark Horse Parlay presented by @DraftKings Big Cat: UCONN (+6.5) BFW: CLEM (+16.5) Katic: Iowa (+14.5) Tate: Rutgers (+23.5) #DKPartner

Here's the fun part. In the Flash I.V. picks, Katic took Indiana -23.5 against Rutgers. That's the same game at the same number as Tate's dog, on the other side. Katic laying 3-plus touchdowns with Indiana is exactly the kind of bet Rico Bosco would make, so the desk decided Rico had gotten into his head. In the same segment Tate took the Over 54.5 in Auburn-Tennessee.

Rico might have brainwashed Katic

So the question for Saturday is Indiana-Rutgers. If Katic covers, Rico gets the credit. If Rutgers stays within 23.5, the fill-in host cashes the longest leg of the parlay and Dave has to watch his substitute take a victory lap. Tate also has Ohio State at Kinnick to sweat. If both of those go his way, the call-up might not stay a one-time thing.
