Olli Maatta out for Wild vs. Lightning, David Spacek in

TLDR: Olli Maatta skated Thursday morning but won't play against Tampa Bay with a lower-body injury, so David Spacek makes his season debut on the Minnesota Wild blue line.
The news landed at about 5:30 PM CT, which is late for a guy who was out there at the morning skate.
So Maatta took part in the skate, something didn't feel right afterward, and the Wild sat him. Lower body is the only detail given, which is how NHL teams always describe these. He's considered day-to-day, and the next chance to get him back is Saturday against the Panthers.
Maatta is new in Minnesota. Bill Guerin brought him over from Calgary on July 2 with Blake Coleman. The Wild sent Jake Middleton and 3 draft picks the other way: a 2027 3rd, a 2028 4th and a 2029 2nd. Maatta carries a $3.5 million cap hit on a deal that runs through 2027-28, and he's been a steady 3rd-pair guy so far, with 1 assist, 3 blocked shots and a minus-1 through 3 games.
Spacek finally gets his first game of the season. For a single night that's a simple swap. If this turns into more than a few days, the cap becomes the real problem.

That's the part to keep an eye on. Minnesota built this roster to contend, and they don't have much cap room to work with. If Maatta misses real time, calling up a replacement could mean moving money around before anyone gets on a plane. A quick return on Saturday makes the whole thing go away. A trip to injured reserve means the front office has to get creative.
For now it's Spacek vs. the Lightning and a lot of waiting on that lower body. If Maatta is out there for warmups against Florida, nobody needs to touch the cap. If he isn't, that's when the cap moves start.
