There's a recurring bit on Davey Day Trader that has officially graduated from running gag to load-bearing storyline: Dave Portnoy is terrible at crypto. Not Twitter-bad. Not unlucky-streak bad. Historically, hilariously, almost artistically bad. And on Thursday's stream, he stopped fighting the diagnosis and just handed himself the mic.

The specific confession this time was about MSTR — the Michael Saylor leveraged-Bitcoin proxy that every retail trader on earth thinks they can outsmart. Dave was no exception. He went in convinced he had the angles, the entries, the exits. He had a plan. The plan, as he is now openly admitting on camera, did not survive contact with the market.

What makes the bit work is that Dave isn't trying to spin it. The cope phase is over. This is the acceptance phase, which on DDTG sounds a lot like a guy on a podcast yelling about running out of money to average down with. The 'buy the dip until you're out of dip' rant is now the actual investing thesis, which is funny when it's not your portfolio.

The clip accounts are circling, the 'isn't panicking… but might be panicking' framing has become the house style for covering Dave's crypto book, and every reaction shot of him behind the mic gets weaponized within minutes. The Kraken sponsorship banner sitting under all of it only sharpens the joke — the guy whose brand is built on calling his shots is sponsored by the exchange where the shots keep missing.

The MSTR confession is just the latest entry in a ledger Dave has been keeping against himself for years now. He thought he'd play it like a fiddle. The fiddle, it turns out, was him. Until the next dip, anyway — at which point he will almost certainly buy it.
