Nobody has a starting QB yet in the SEC's toughest division

Fall camp is supposed to be about installing the playbook and hitting your conditioning marks. At Tennessee, Alabama and Florida, it's also about figuring out who's even going to be taking snaps in Week 1. On3's Pete Nakos dropped the definitive tracker on where every major QB battle in the country actually stands, and the SEC's power programs are wide open.

Tennessee's situation is the most dramatic on paper. The Vols are replacing a starting quarterback for the 5th straight season, this time with Joey Aguilar out of eligibility. The favorite is Faizon Brandon, a true freshman who was the No. 3 overall recruit in his class and went 35-1 with back-to-back state titles in high school. He's 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, and reportedly has coaches inside the program surprised by how physically ready he already looks. George MacIntyre is still in the mix, but Brandon has the momentum heading into camp.

Alabama's battle is a lot closer to a coin flip. Keelon Russell, once the No. 2 overall recruit in the country, is fighting off Austin Mack, a Washington transfer who followed Kalen DeBoer to Tuscaloosa and knows this exact offensive system inside and out. Reports have pegged the competition somewhere around 55-45 or 60-40 in Russell's favor, but nothing close to settled. That's a big deal for a program that just watched Ty Simpson get drafted in the first round — Alabama doesn't rebuild at quarterback, it reloads, and this year the reload is genuinely up for grabs.

Florida's version of this story features a transfer with something to prove. Aaron Philo, who came over from Georgia Tech, has reportedly held the edge over redshirt freshman Tramell Jones by consistently bouncing back from bad reps during spring ball — the kind of resilience coaches love to see from a guy trying to win a job in a new building.

None of these are officially decided, and that's the whole point of Nakos and On3 running an updated tracker all August instead of a one-and-done depth chart post. Jobs will be won and lost in practice reps nobody outside the building sees, and by the time these teams open the season, oddsmakers and bettors will be leaning heavily on whatever leaks out of August scrimmages. For 3 programs with national championship expectations hanging over them, that's not a small subplot — it might be the whole ballgame.
