Robbie Fox's Infinity Vision Take Riles Film Twitter

TLDR: Robbie Fox went all in on Disney's new Infinity Vision format days after Avengers: Endgame Encore opened at No. 1 with $26 million, and film twitter came for him.
The pile-on had already been going for hours when the Barstool side started swinging back, and Kenjac was the first to call the result.
Robbie has broken the back of film twitter
First, what Robbie was hyping. Infinity Vision is Disney's new premium large-format label. It isn't a new camera or projector. It's a certification for existing big-screen auditoriums that clear Disney's bar: a screen at least 45 feet wide, 7.1 or immersive sound, and a minimum brightness. Endgame Encore, the retitled re-release of the 2019 movie, was the first thing to play under that name, and the Infinity Vision and IMAX versions carry extra footage plus a longer look at Avengers: Doomsday.
Robbie's own posting kept the same tone. He wasn't walking anything back.
Honestly, I agree. It's more than that. It's an experience unlike any other.
That's the part film twitter can't stand. A format that is basically a Disney-approved sticker on a big room got a full-throated endorsement from a guy with a following, and the quote tweets went after him. BarstoolNate answered the only way Barstool knows how, by agreeing even harder.
@RobbieBarstool Glad to hear this. Will only be seeing movies in Infinity Vision from now on.
Jeff D. Lowe skipped the bit and went after the critics directly. His point was that the quote tweets proved the stereotype about film twitter better than Robbie ever could.
When people make fun of “film twitter” for oftentimes being the lamest group of people alive… it’s for shit like the quote tweets on this. Shocking lack of awareness by some people lol.
The awkward part for the snobs is that the box office sides with Robbie. Encore opened September 25 as the No. 1 movie in America with $26 million. About $13.5 million of that came from Infinity Vision screens, even though only 1,300-plus of its 3,000-plus screens were certified. So roughly half the money came from well under half the rooms. Plenty of people apparently wanted the experience Robbie was selling.
There's a real business reason Disney is pushing this. Avengers: Doomsday opens December 18 without IMAX screens, and Infinity Vision is Marvel's way of getting audiences used to a different premium option before then. Encore was the trial run. If the numbers keep up, Robbie's take will look less like a troll and more like early adoption. Expect him to bring it up again when Doomsday comes out.
