There comes a point in every Phillies season where Kyle Schwarber stops being a hitter and starts being a weather event. We are squarely in that window again. The guy walks up to the plate, the crowd starts buzzing, and then the ball ends up 425 feet away in someone's beer.

This is the Schwarber experience in a nutshell. He will go 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts and look completely lost, and then the next at-bat he detonates a ball into the second deck and suddenly he is the most important hitter in baseball again. The man does not have a middle gear. It is either swing through a fastball down the middle or hit a homer that lands in New Jersey, and right now the dial is permanently stuck on the second one.

For a Phillies team that lives and dies by the long ball, having Schwarber in this mode is the ultimate cheat code. You don't need to manufacture runs when your leadoff guy is one swing away from putting up a crooked number by himself. Pitchers are going to start nibbling, the walks will pile up, and Philadelphia will happily take that too.
Enjoy it while it's happening. Streaks like this are why the bleachers in right field show up early with their gloves on. As long as Schwarber keeps swinging like this, every Phillies at-bat is appointment television.
