Adam Schefter broke the news Monday night that the Seahawks waived running back Kenny McIntosh, and honestly, it's one of the least surprising camp cuts of the summer once you look at the depth chart Seattle has built around him.
Adam Schefter confirmed the Seahawks had waived McIntosh.
Seahawks waived running back Kenny McIntosh.
McIntosh never really got a fair shot to prove himself in Seattle. A seventh-round pick out of Georgia in 2023, he spent most of his rookie year on injured reserve with a sprained knee, limited to 3 games of special teams work. He carved out a bit more of a role in 2024 -- 172 rushing yards on 31 carries plus 3 catches -- but before he could build on that, disaster struck again: a torn ACL in his left knee during a training camp practice, 366 days before this waiver hit, per Yahoo Sports.
That ACL tear meant McIntosh didn't play a single snap during the Seahawks' Super Bowl LX-winning season, watching from the sideline as Kenneth Walker won MVP honors in the win over New England. He entered this camp still on the active/PUP list, and with a crowded backfield ahead of him, there was never really a path back onto the 53-man roster.
And that backfield got a lot more crowded. Walker bolted in free agency for Kansas City, but Seattle didn't sit still -- they took Notre Dame's Jadarian Price in the first round and signed Emanuel Wilson to a one-year deal, while George Holani currently sits atop the depth chart. Zach Charbonnet, last year's starter, is working his own way back from a playoff ACL injury, which only added urgency to get healthy, competent bodies in the room now rather than wait on rehab.
None of that left much room for a guy who's essentially missed two of his three pro seasons to knee injuries. It's a tough break for McIntosh, who now has to catch on somewhere else if he wants to keep his NFL career alive -- but for the Seahawks, this was less a decision and more a formality.
