You cannot watch 5 minutes of these conference finals without somebody hitting the deck like they got shot by a sniper in the upper deck. SGA is the face of it, the MVP-level guard who has turned the rip-through and the hip-check whistle into an art form, and the crowds have finally had enough. The arenas are now openly serenading him every time he goes to the line.
The home crowd letting SGA hear it every trip down the floor.
The Barstool takes started piling up fast, and they were not kind. Nate basically called the whole act Mighty Ducks cosplay, arguing that SGA is too good to have his legacy be flailing on the hardwood after every contested jumper. Even Portnoy chimed in telling guys to grow up and play playoff basketball instead of hunting whistles on contact that wouldn't get called in a YMCA pickup run.
A clip making the rounds of SGA going down without contact even being made.
Then Pardon My Take stepped in and tried to redirect the entire conversation. Big Cat's argument is simple and honestly hard to push back on: blaming the players is missing the point, because the players are doing exactly what the rulebook incentivizes them to do. If you reward the flop with 2 free throws, you're going to get more flops. Punish it with a tech or a fine after review and it disappears overnight.
Big Cat laying out why this is a league problem, not a Shai problem.
That's basically the same fix Nate floated — review every foul, hit the flopper with a tech, watch the league clean itself up in a week. It is not a complicated solve. The NBA has the replay infrastructure and they already review last-2-minute calls. The will to actually punish the guys gaming the whistle is what's missing, and until that changes the FLOPPER chants are only going to get louder.
PMT putting the blame squarely on the league office.
The wild part is SGA is genuinely one of the best players on the planet and could be hoisting a trophy soon. But if the league lets this continue, the lasting image of his run isn't going to be the buckets — it's going to be him on his back staring at the jumbotron waiting on a whistle. That's a league problem to fix. The clock is ticking.
