For anyone who lived through the last few seasons of South Side baseball, the words "White Sox" and ".500" sitting in the same sentence at the quarter mark feels like a typo. But here we are. The fellas have been stacking wins, the lineup is producing top-to-bottom, and the vibes have flipped from gallows humor to actual baseball joy.
Another tally in the W column on the way up the hill.

The kid driving a lot of the buzz is Colson Montgomery. The top-prospect tag has been hanging on him for what feels like forever, and now he's actually doing the thing — barreling baseballs and turning at-bats into events. He hasn't quite reached Joe Borchard upper-deck folklore territory yet, but WSD has him penciled in for one eventually, and watching the swing right now, that's not a crazy bet.
Montgomery and the Sox stacking nukes in the box score.
Borchard territory is officially on the table.

Monty is gonna put one in Borchard territory eventually
The other guy people can't shut up about is Sam Antonacci. He's not the prospect headline, he's the dirtball who makes every at-bat miserable for the pitcher and somehow ends up on second base when a normal player ends up on first. WSD has fully crossed the line from "this guy's fun" to "this guy is rewriting my entire opinion of Italian-Americans," which is the highest possible compliment in the WSD canon.
A character endorsement of the highest order.

I know I shouldn’t judge an entire ethnicity based on one person but Sam Antonacci is single handedly changing my opinion of Italian Americans. Fucking love that guy
And then because the baseball gods have apparently decided to be kind for once, Gavin Sheets — yes, that Gavin Sheets — went and played 9th-inning hero. Late-inning damage from a guy who has heard plenty of boos in his career is exactly the kind of thing that turns a .500 team into a team that genuinely believes it can hang.
Sheets cashing in late to flip the game.
So here's where we are: even at the quarter pole, barking on the division lead, with a clubhouse that looks like it's actually having fun playing baseball. After the last few years of being the punchline of MLB, the bar was on the floor — and the fact that South Side fans are watching games to enjoy them instead of to suffer through them is a genuine plot twist. Long way to go, but the confidence is real.
WSD soaking in a .500 ballclub barking on the division lead.

OVA!!! .500 and barking on the division lead at the quarter poll. What a world. Incredible job by the fellas too top to bottom. The confidence is palpable!!! Most fun I’ve had watching baseball in years and you can tell those guys are having a blast too
Barstool Chicago putting the milestone in lights.
