Jon Gruden teamed up with Lightning to take on the Chiclets crew over a full 18, and somewhere in the middle of it Gruden has apparently been holding court with old-school NFL stories between shots. The on-course storytelling has become the actual selling point — forget the scorecard, just let the man talk.

Ryan Whitney has been the perfect foil all round. On the 9th hole, between the trash talk and the science-experiment burn aimed at his playing partner, Whitney pulled Gruden aside to ask him to reflect on his first year at Barstool. The answer was peak Gruden — self-aware, totally honest, and very on brand for a guy who showed up to a hockey podcast's golf event with no real job description.
